Dallas Wins Points Championship

The Dallas Armadillos have captured the 2018 FFL-GOO points championship, coming from behind on the final weekend to overtake Keystone and win the points trophy by a 25-point margin.

Dallas’ 1,354 is the all-time highest single-season point total in the league’s 27-year history, besting the 1,335 point season the Blizzard had in 2013.

This is the Armadillos’ third points championship, all of those coming in the past 5 seasons. DAL co-owner Sam McClain also has one previous points championship as owner of the LA Riot! in 1992 (in 1992 the points champ scored 843 points for the season).

Keystone will need to send away both of the trophies this year. The top-seeded Longfellows took the upset loss in the Fantasy Bowl last week, and lost the points race after holding the top position for a total of 9 weeks in 2018.

In another notable first, the Philadelphia Griffins finished last in total points. That is the first time ever the Griffins have finished last in points. That leaves the Longfellows as the only remaining franchise who has never finished at the bottom in annual points.

Scoring in fantasy and the NFL in general is up this year. Ironically the BOS Wildcats finished with the exact same total points — 1,099 — in the past two years. In 2017 that total was good for 2nd place. This year, that’s a 4th-place finish. The Griffins’ low point total (785) is also the highest point total ever posted by a last-place team.

2018 Final Points:

  1. DAL Armadillos 1354
  2. KEY Longfellows 1329 (-25)
  3. NPP Patriots 1108 (-246)
  4. BOS Wildcats 1099 (-255)
  5. BBF Blowfish 1065 (-289)

Happy New Year!!

If Only Blowfish Had Thumbs…

There will be no repeat champion this year, but we have an historic occurence: the Blowfish/Blizzard/Blowfish franchise has become the first in league history with 5 championships. Congratulations to the Weavers on this milestone. The Blowfish lost the very first Fantasy Bowl, moved to Syracuse where they won 4 as the Blizzard, and have brought things full circle winning their 5th title as the Blowfish.

Boston beat the Keystone Longfellows 79-69, despite leaving Aaron Rodgers and his 40(!!!) points on the bench. Alvin Kamara and Robert Woods scored 17 each in a solid effort across the board. Keystone also had a strong game, but was without the top-scoring fantasy threat this year — Todd Gurley — who was out for an injury. The Longfellows could not plug the gaping hole Gurley’s absence left in their lineup.

The consolation game was also an upset, with Happy Valley knocking off Dallas 85-49. The Violence had huge games from Ben Roethlisberger, Chris Carson, and Kyle Rudolph who all scored more than 20 points.

Dallas has also relinquished its lead in the overall points race, now trailing Keystone by a mere 8 points (1280-1272) going into the final week. Both teams are still within reach of eclipsing the league record in total points (1335 – Syracuse in 2013).

Longfellows Look To Repeat; Blowfish Want One For The Thumb

The top two seeds will square off against one another in Fantasy Bowl XXVII. For top-seeded Keystone, it was an easy win. For the second-seeded Blowfish, it was a nail-biter until the 4th quarter of the Monday night game.

Keystone ended Happy Valley’s playoff run with an 86-34 thumping of the Violence. The Longfellows enter the Fantasy Bowl hoping to follow the 1994-95 Cheeseheads and the 2006-07 Griffins as the only teams to win back-to-back championships.

The Blowfish entered the Monday night game down to Dallas but with Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara still to play. A low-scoring game made it closer than expected, but Boston prevailed 57-47. The Blowfish will be playing in their 7th Fantasy Bowl, and are hoping to become the first franchise to win 5 championships.

Boston’s seven Fantasy Bowl appearances ties the other Boston team — the Wildcats — for 2nd most in league history. The Griffins hold the league record with 10 Fantasy Bowl appearances.

Keystone has a chance to capture some league history as well — no franchise has ever completed a sweep of both the championship game and the points championship twice. The Longfellows have a chance to do it in consecutive years.

Dallas remains the point leader, but the lead has shrunk to a mere TWO TOUCHDOWNS over Keystone with two weeks remaining (1223 – 1211). The Armadillos will play the Violence this week in the consolation game to determine 3rd place.

Fantasy Bowl XXVII:

#1 seed Keystone (10-3) vs. #2 seed Boston Blowfish (9-4)

Consolation (3rd Place):

#4 seed Dallas (9-5) vs. #6 seed Happy Valley (8-6)

Dallas, Happy Valley advance to semi-finals

The highest-scoring team in the league and the lowest playoff seed are the two teams that will advance to the semi-finals.

Dallas Armadillos hung on for a 76-72 win over the Boston Wildcats, while Happy Valley Violence came from behind to knock off the #3 seed New Pepper Patriots 55-43.

The playoff matchups for Week 15 will be determined as soon as we hear from Keystone. The Longfellows get to pick their opponent — either Dallas or Happy Valley. Keystone has until 8pm Wednesday to decide. If Keystone declines to choose their opponent, they will play the lower seed — Happy Valley.

UPDATE: The Keystone Longfellows have, as expected, selected Happy Valley Violence as their opponent for the semi-finals. The matchups will be:

#1 seed Keystone (9-3) vs. #6 seed Happy Valley (8-5)

#2 seed Boston Blowfish (8-4) vs. #4 seed Dallas (9-4)

Dallas has opened up a 51-point lead over Keystone for the overall points race (1176-1125) with 3 weeks remaining. All other teams are 200+ points behind Dallas at this point.

Wild Card Playoff Update

We will enter the Monday night game of FFL-GOO wild card playoff weekend with both playoff games undecided and the top two seeds breathing a huge sigh of relief they had byes this week.

#1 seed Keystone Longfellows have scored 23 points, with a CBS projected score of 37 points (WR Diggs and K Janikowski in the Monday night game). #2 seed Boston Blowfish finished their playoff bye scoring only 38 points. Those are the lowest scores of all playoff teams. KEY and BBF sure appear to have dodged a bullet during their playoff byes.

#3 seed New Pepper Patriots look to be in trouble, clinging to a 43-42 lead over #6 seed Happy Valley Violence. NPP is done for the week, but HVV has two players in the Monday night game (RB Chris Carson, TE Kyle Rudolf). CBS projects the final score to be 51-43 in favor of the Violence, which would be a big upset.

Overall point leader and #4 seed Dallas Armadillos have posted the highest score so far of playoff teams, but find themselves in a 73-68 tussle with the #5 seed Boston Wildcats. DAL has WR Tyler Lockett in the Monday night game, while BOS has WR Adam Thielen. CBS has Dallas as a 60/40 favorite, projecting a 78-76 final score.

Other scores:
FFL Froglickers – 93
MIA Muffdivers – 79
OCD Beach Dudes – 71
BOB Big Bang – 52 (+ WR David Moore)
MER Mustangs – 35
PHI Griffins – 30
CHI Mud – 26

Playoff Schedule – Wild Card Round

Congratulations to the Boston Blowfish, winners of the Engle Division, #2 playoff seed, and first-round playoff bye by virtue of their 61-57 win over New Pepper. The Patriots will take the #3 seed into the playoffs.

Also congratulations to Happy Valley who captured the final wild card spot by beating the Froglickers 34-19 while at the same time the Chicago Mud failed to grab the final playoff spot in losing 62-36 to the Beach Dudes.

Here are the playoff matchups for the Wild Card round of the playoffs.

#1 seed Keystone Longfellows (9-3) – BYE
#2 seed Boston Blowfish (8-4) – BYE

#3 seed New Pepper Patriots (7-5) vs. #6 seed Happy Valley Violence (7-5)

#4 seed Dallas Armadillos (8-4) vs. #5 seed Boston Wildcats (7-5)

Remember that as the #1 seed, Keystone will choose their opponent for the semi-final round from among the winners of the wild card round.

Remember also that points continue to count through Week 17.
